1980s VM Beatle – It went to Glastonbury festival and had to be pushed out of the mud by the farm tractor (a common issue after rain). Here it is on its way to Spain. At some point (Wales) the accelerator pedal broke off, speedo stopped (fixed with breadbacg twidler) and smoke came from the shorted battery under the rear seat. I also remember readjusting the points in the dark somewhere in Norfolk. 1989 Renault 5 – I need a real photo – spatious and we loved it! After the breakdowns in Herbie we bought this new for reliability (£99 deposit!) Renault Clio – 1993 – we drove it around Europe and loved it. It lived somewhere until 2007 at 150k miles! 1996 MX5 mk1 – went all the way to Corsica and is still running in 2022 somewhere! We became hooked on the simple light open top experience after one year of ownership. Audi A4 – 1996 Comfortable and spatious for baby seat. It famously had a sticky boot release but other owners kept it going into 2012. BMW 318 – 2002 We imported this BMW from Holland and saved enough to pay for embedded headrest screens & built-in DVD player for the kids. We loved the driving dynamics (and tested that on track!) Someone kept it going until 2015 and 100k miles . BMW 525i 2008 – seen here in Scotland – so luxurious and sounded fantastic (but had injector failures initially) MX5 mk2 1.8 – Glad to have it as a second car for school runs (good excuse!) we kept it for 18yrs! 2014 BMW 520d on its first traditional drive out in the New Forest. 60mpg went everywhere! 987 mk2 2011 Porsche Boxster in 2015 – after a track day in Thruxton led to a UK-wide search for one. Such an upgrade – sounds fantastic. I learnt how to change its air filters (harder than it sounds!) 2022 saw us buying our first EV – a BMW i4 edrive40 – super car now we’re used to long drives and chargers. Can do 300 miles and is an easy way into EV ownership (in terms of driving!)
