Avoriaz in France is on the Swiss border and high enough that it has reliable snow. The traffic-free village means you can ski to the shop or the ski lifts easily.
In the summer it is a nice alpine environment for walks, sports, mountain biking and relaxing in the indoor pool. Some chairlifts keep running to help people get to some tops.
